Designing the cooling system for engines of racing cars

As the racing cars are running in race track with thick light blue smoke, it's possible that the engine blows out. An overheating engine always causes the failure of engine. With the engine overworking, the cooling system is unable to meet the cooling requirement and it leads to lubrication failure that causes the failure of engine finally. The racing cars are more likely to blow out due to the two following reasons: the racing teams are in excessive pursuit of high speed and power and yet the cooling system cannot meet the cooling demand for overloaded engines during a long period; some of the racing drivers overuse the engine of high revolutions and low gear or the cars is idling for a long time so that the engine is going to be overheating and to blow out.

Therefore, designing the cooling system for engines of racing cars is a challengeable job. The radiator, also named as water tank, has an impact on the current with different shape and size parameters and affects aerodynamic property as well as performance of engines. So there should be the optimization of these parameters with wind tunnel system.

The water coolant and engine oil is cooled by the radiators on either side. Some of the racing cars are equipped with the monosymmetric radiators with separated water and oil on either side of cars. The other racing cars use the asymmetric arrangement that there is a water radiator on one side and radiator with separated water and oil on the other side. All of that is minimizing the number of pipeline to make the weight of cars lighter. The cooling principle is almost in the same with the way to cool the car with water. When the cars are racing, based on the windward current, it takes away the heat from circulating oil and water. On the grid, the engines have mandatory cooling with air fan in the entrance of side pod and intake-tube. The smaller radiators are, the less the volume of oil and water of the racing cars is. Therefore the designers are always reduce the size of racing radiators to lower the resistance of aerodynamic and weight With the progress on manufacturing technology of racing radiators in recent years, the weight of racing radiators are being reduced. In that case, the heat dissipation can be enhanced and the cooling efficiency of cooling water flow of cylinder block and head. And the internal design of engines reduces the stir of oil and avoids too much heat from the beginning.
